THe God Delusion

The book that I read this over these past weeks is the God Delusion. The book is about the arguments for god and how they can be disproven. The book was less about the social agruments of religon. The book focus on the biological and the evolution of religon and how it has to be man made. The book talked about how religon must have been a by product of somting completly different. For ecample one theory that he offers about religon is that it is a by product of kindness. The book goes into many theorys and also talks about how the earth was created and how it is logical to belive in the scintific theory then in the religouish theory. The book is really good and should be a must a read for all athesits.

Al-Qaida Claims to be behind Bombing in Demark Embassy In Pakistan

In a recent bombing in Pakistan the target was a Denmark Embassy. Al-Qaida took responsibility for the attack and claimed it was for the post of the Cartoons. In the attack six people were killed but they claimed that if Denmark does not apologize their will be more attacks that follow. I think its absurd that they will bomb a embassy over a bunch of cartoons and I think that Denmark should not apologize at all and stand-up for an Western ideology which is free-speech. I think that Europe should stand up for free speech and not give in to their threats. I think that Al-Qaida and its followers should just get over and realize that their religion isnt an absoultism but I do realize that last statement is unresonable request.

Punk Rock

From the basements of houses to run down factories. A new style of music was born it was called Hardcore Punk. The music came form the British punk band called the Sex Pistols. The only difference was that the American style was more extreme and that's were it got its name Hardcore punk. The style of music was very distinct thier idea was to trim the fat from the song and only have a few chords and a simple beat and the lyrics were foucsed around society during that time. For example many bands were about having a hatred towards Regan and being hated by society. From the eighties spawned a new genration of punks in the Ninties which was less about the poltics and more about drinking.

My Architect Reflection

My Architect was a confusing movie to follow in a classroom environment. I didn’t really like any of the characters including the main character. For instance I don’t really see the point in this movie at all. It’s not my father and even if it was my father I wouldn’t feel the need to make movie about his life. For a 110 minute long movie it was boring and long and the interviews were not very interesting. I will admit some of the buildings he designed were interesting. I thought that it was good for the him to find about his father and see his father’s designs. I felt that the movie was not necessary for viewers I mean I could careless about his personal life. I will admit it was funny how his father tragically died. I mean having a heart attack in a public bathroom at Penn State. I mean how often that does that happen. I was a too big fan of the movie but am sure their people who got a bigger message form the movie. We didn't finish the movie but form what I did see I could tell its one of those movies that in the end he learns to forgive his father about leaving him and his mother all alone for so many years. I don’t know how to fill a five hundred words but all I will say is that I don’t find this to be a great movie topic.

Guns, Germs, and Steel Book Report

The book I read is Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond. The book was about how some civilization's were able to succeeded and why others are still using rocks and sticks. In the book is main augment for his thesis was comparing the islands of New Guinea and how they have not moved forward. He looked at how European had the means to expand so therefore gained huge advantages over other people. For example since they were able to tame the horse they did not need as many hunters and so people were able to farm and tame other animals like the pig. In doing so they were able to gain immunity form virus that can spread form animal to human. Unlike the people of New Guinea who lived in a jungle environment and aren't able to farm as much so they depend on hunting and don't have spare time like the Europeans did to invent or tame animals. Trough out the book he list examples like what would happen if the people of Africa tamed the wild zebra. The book was an enjoyable read and I recommend it to anyone who has taken an interest in the subject.

Chavez Crazy Again

Chavez the president of Venezuela said in a statement earlier that the U.S was spying on the government in a while on a anti-drug mission. Chavez claims that the U.S was spying on the government and testing the reaction that Venezuela would give. This event has worsened the tensions between U.S and Venezuela. He claims that the U.S is just trying to find reasons to put Venezuela on the U.S terror list. In my personal opinion I find this to be an attempt for Chavez to try and win back his people. Venezuela isnt very happy with Chavez and it seems like an desperate plea.

Technology in Schools

Technology can be useful in a classroom environment if used correctly. It all comes down is the internet being used to supplement the teachers lesson or is going to be used in place of the teacher. Not only is the teacher an important part of the equation but so is the student. If a student is not interested in the lesson then that student won’t pay attention regardless if the lesson is done with or without a computer. I think before we look for technology to help fix the education system in the U.S we would too look at the content of what’s being taught and if the school is fully functional. Before we start updating every classroom with the newest laptop how about updating the school and giving teachers the actual supplies they so desperately need. Technology has its place in public education but first we should look how the system is run. If public schools can barely afford to keep programs like art and music in school how are they supposed to keep up running an effective media lab. Which leads back to my point technology can be used effetely in schools but they should not be used as a solution to solve America’s failing education system.

War Funding Blocked

The senete blocked a bill today that would provide 163 billion dollers to help fund the wars in Iraq and Afaghanstan. The bill was blocked by 132 republicans who voted present not wanting to see like they were opeanly agasint the war. The bill would provide funding for the wars up until spring. Republicans were angred because the democrats didn't get the bill enghun time to go over proper preducers. I think that the bill should not be passed because this war has draged on for far too long and its time congrees put his foot down and said no to this war.

Clockers

The book that I read is called Clockers by Richard Price. The book is one of the best books that I have ever read. After reading the book I couldn't find anything wrong with the plot or the characters. The characters in the had great plot development and evolved nicely with the story. The plot of the book was about a drug dealer named Strike and his life in a project in New Jersey. The deals with a murder and deals with Strike and his brother and two homicide cops. The book deals with life in a the projects in the eyes of the drug dealers and the cops. The book is beautifully written and leads to many conclusions through out the book. I would recommend the book to anyone who has considered reading this book or any of Richard Price's other books.

More Middle East Trouble

The Middle East is once again going through problems. The Israeli government still backs its bombing campaign of presumed nuclear program in Syria. Now the United States has said that they have pictures of the Nuclear site and Israeli government has claimed they have a picture of the a North Korean and a Syrian who is head of the Atomic commission. The United State also has picture of Syria and the supposed nuclear plant and said that it has striking resemblances to the one in North Korea. In my opinion I think the United States should stay out any Middle East affairs like this since their last affair with the war in the Iraq.

Zinn Readings

My two Zinn questions are as follows:

1. What negative effects does making a corporation a person have?

2.What would Zinn think about the United States supporting kosovo independence?

Tipping Point

The chapter was very interesting and I learned a lot about tipping points. It was cool to learn about what worked with children and what didn't work with children. It was neat to heat about the different experiments that they tried on children to get them to respond to their show. It was interesting to see how blue clues is the ultimate show. After reading I learned about tipping points and found what makes a tipping point a tipping point a tipping point.

San Diego Puddle

A local San Diego politician had a run with a local police in a scandal that might cost him this election. He was caught taking a pee in his truck outside a voters house. John Hartley was deeply embarrassed by this act and sent out a letter with his formal apologize. John Hartley is running for City Council. The act was performed when he was going door to door to campaigning for himself when the urge to pee took over and he was forced to pee in his truck.

Slaughter House Five (Book Report)

The book that I read this week was Slaughter House Five by Kurt Vonnegut. I really enjoyed the book and could find no problems with the book. I really Liked his message on war and the different ways he used to describe characters in his book. The part that I really liked the best was when Billy was about the be the killed and the speech he gave before he was shot by the killer that he had fought in war with. Another interesting part of the book were the aliens and how they could time travel.

A Failed War

The Iraq war will soon be moved over to the next president to take over the United States of America. During his time as president Bush has made no effort to try and clean up the mess that is Iraq. Iraq has become increasingly unstable and are soldiers are becoming restless. Bush has made proposals for reducing the tours of duty that soldiers have to stay in Iraq but he has not given us any real solutions.

Bio-Fuel Solution or problem

My current event is about the talk over corn being the key to being oil independent. The article was about how much of a sham the talk about corn is. The article talked about how many countries that have switched over to using Bio-fuel have increased emissions. For example in the Brazil over the fact that its country can run over 45 percent of its country on Bio-fuel. The article talked about the cons of people switching to Bio-fuels. One example is the fact that countries that are switching to Bio-fuel are cutting down more of the rain forest to meet the demand of the fuel and the food supply. Besides the problem of running the rain forest into the ground using your food supply as gas isn't always a good idea. People needed to hop off the band wagon for Bio-fuels and realize that their is a better alternative that we can not exploit. The sun is a much easier place to fuel our cars and make a profit. What politicians need to do is stop looking at the quick fix which is Bio-fuel and look for the long turn solutions like solar energy.

Child Hood Dreams

When I was a kid a had dreamed of becoming a comedian(See also Scientist,Musician,Karate Kid,and football star). When I was growing up my parents has allowed me to stay up and watch Seinfeld and I had always enjoyed the part with Jerry doing stand up. As I grew up I carried out that dream of becoming a stand up comedian. In middle school was the first time that acted on my dream I performed a stand-up bit in front of the whole school. Come High School I decided to drop that dream I don't know why but I did. After watching listening to the speech form the professor it didn't make want to go back to my childhood dreams if any thing the speech didnt even show me how to complete my goals. I found the speech just to be about him and how he did but not about how we can do it.

Golden Compass(Book Report)

The book is called the Golden Compass. It was written by Philip Pullman. The book was written in retaliation to the book called Narnia. The author of the Golden Compass believed that the Narnia books were had a religious undertone. So he wrote the Golden Compass as an alternative to Narnia. Many people believe that the Golden Compass has an atheist undertone but after reading the book the undertone seems to me to standing up for your-self and questioning information given. The books main character is a young girl living in a College under the guidance of her Uncle. In the begging of the book you learn about the life that she leads and wonderful it is until events happen that change her life forever. I wont give away important details in fear of anyone wanting to read the book. One of the most important parts of the book are is the sudden disappearance of the main character's friend Roger. The overall was good but its mistakes brought it down for becoming a great book. For example towards the middle and end of book the book became easy figure the plot twist and it became to predictable.

The things they carried

The book that I read for the project was The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brian. The book is about the items that the soldiers carried through their journey in Vietnam. The items they bring vary form guilt and fear to real items like an M-16. The book is about O'Brian and his ex princes in Vietnam as it as much as the different characters and their stories in Vietnam. The book goes through the reasons for coming to Vietnam and the struggles that they faced. For example the O'Brian talks about the struggle he faced when received his letter to be sent to Vietnam. He was faced with the choice of leaving to Canada and disgracing his family and living up to his political views or he could and not disappoint his family. I would recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a good read. Not only is this a good book about the people who fought in Vietnam it also portrays the story of all soldiers. I recommend this book to anyone.

Palenstine

Due to the recent attacks by the Palestine's. The country has been victimized by sanctions. The country is in the worst shape it has ever been in due to man made causes. The leader of Palestine said that it would try peace talks but that offer is useless. The number of peace talks between the too is many and another one wont do anything. Neither will sanctions all it does is cause suffering towards the people and creates more hate.

A Leader Steps Down

Today Fidel Castro says that he run in the next election. The reason for his retirement is his health. Many Cuban Americans are celebrating the fact that their dreaded enemy finally has stepped down. Many Americans think that since Fidel has finally stepped down that we should end the embargo on Cuba. I think that the embargo has ended years go since many American companies do deals in Cuba already its stupid to keep saying that we have an embargo. Choke The Book Report

The book that I have been reading is called Choke. It was written by Chuck Palahnuik he was also the author of fight club. The main character is a man called Victor Mancini who is a sex addict and a con man. The book is about a med school drop out who is working at a colonial era theme park to keep his mom in mental hospital. To make money on the side he pretends to choke at restaurants to much the kindness of others. If this sounds strange to you then you haven't read one of Chucks books. Choke is an okay book it doesn't stand out at all compared to his other books. Its the same shocking and dark humored novel that Chuck has been producing for years. Its great for someone who likes same old same old but not good for someone who is wanting something different. When reading the book I was waiting to meet another character called Tlyer Durdan to show him the way. Overall I gave this book a three out five.

Drugs In The Caribbean

Recently the Caribbean islands have had a major problem with drug related crime. According to the United Nations the Caribbean has the highest crime rate of the other countries. The action comes form a mix of race and drug related wars. The drugs and guns are being shipped into many ports and given to drug lords. The government has to face massive corruption and deal with showing kids that gangs are not fun. The effect on this that torrusim in the area is suffering and that makes up a large part of the ecomony.

American Hardcore Book Report

The book I read this week is called American Hardcore. The book is about punk movement in the early eighties. The book was about three hundred and fifty pages long. The book was really interesting because it didn’t glorify the movement it just told the about the movement the way it was. The book contained information form a third person view. It also contained information for people who lived during the movement. The book went into detail about the bands in the era and how they did during the time. It also went into detail about what destroyed the scene and its major bands. The interesting about reading the book was about what destroyed the scene. For example a big one was that when bands started learning how to play they no longer wanted to play the hardcore instead they wanted to play metal. Another big factor in the destruction of the scene was drugs. Drugs is what caused a lot bands to break up due the fact that many band members would OD. After reading the book I learned about different bands that I hadn’t herd of that were key players in the scene. I recommend anybody who listens to or is a fan of punk pick up this book and give it a read. American Hardcore gives a great detail and unbiased opinion on the scene.

Picture Vocab Week Two

Eradicate-To remove or to utterly destroy I choose the picture of Pol Pot because during his regime they tried to eradicate as many people as possible. He tried to eradicate those who were intelligent and those that posed a possible threat to his regime.

Esoteric- Belonging to a select few
I choose the picture of a punk show because people in the hardcore movement felt like they were a part of a select group. It was accepted in the main stream and was looked as a serious threat the well being of the nation.

Escalate-To increase intensity
I choose the word escalate for the war in Iraq because I believe that we greatly increased the danger in the area. We invaded a country and region that was already unstable and tried to force our idols and way of life on a country that has history of rejecting western lifestyle. Because we went to occupy that country I believe we escalated the danger even further.

Epitome-A person who has a all the good traits
I choose a picture of John Edwards because he is the epitome of a good leader for this country. Its shame that he dropped out of the race before super Tuesday. His plans for our country would have truly put us back in the place of a great nation.

Erratic- Having no certain or definite course

Chamelon The Color Change

For many years scientist believed that chameleon changed their skin to blend in to their environment. Scientists have recently discovered that chameleons may have evolved the skill to catch the eye of the opposite the sex. A study was conducted to prove the findings about the chameleon color changing. They tested 21 different chameleons in Africa and found that all share the evolutionary trait. The reason that chameleons change color is because they have a fourth cone in their eyes that is UV sensitive. They see in colors and when two male chameleons duel they flash the most dominate colors until one of the chameleons go into a dark color to show how they surrender.

The current event that i read for Elika's class is on the victory for Romney in his home town of Michigan. Since Romney was campaign in Michigan a state that has been having economic problems its no wonder why they choose Romney most republican candidates have not outlined there idea for the economy.

Picture Vocab

Intrepid-Fearless
The reason why I choose a picture of black flag was because their lead singer Henry Rollins was fearless when putting on a show. Many stories describe him hitting the crowd with the microphone and spiting on people in the front.

Fallacy- A false notion
The reason why I choose the picture of Iraq is because the war with Iraq was
started over the idea that the country had weapons of mass destruction. Which was later proved to be incorrect to due to information for the UN.

I choose the picture of Bill because i believe is one America's great speakers.

Daniel Shays Essay

Daniel Shays

When the constitution was formed many people don’t think of the name Daniel Shays. He was one of the reasons why our government got rid of the Articles of Confederation. If not for his rebellion our system of government may have been run by the Articles and not the constitution. Daniel Shays’s rebellion is an important movement in the building of our government. Daniel a small farmer in Massachutes with his ideas for a better tomorrow he indeed made a world with a better tomorrow.
Before we begin with the rebellion one must know about the life that Daniel Shays led before his big rebellion. Daniel Shays was born in 1747 in Hopkinton Massachusetts. He grew up in Irish Family who were farmers even thought they were dirt poor and they need Daniel just to make ends meet they sent him to school for a year a two so that he could read and write. When the war for an independent nation broke out Daniel Shays joined the Massachusetts army. He quickly jumped the ranks because of his ability to read and write and persuade people to join the Massachusetts army. Daniel even fought in many important battles of the revolution. He fought at Lexington and at Bunker Hill. Even though he was never trained for battle his fellow soldiers said that he was good fighter. In 1779 he was officially named captain of the regiment in Massachusetts. In 1780 he resigned form the military and was fully paid for his work in the military. After the war he returned home to find that the farmers of Massachusetts were suffering from the freedom they had received.
The reason that the farmers were facing many problems form the newly formed nation was because they had no market to sell there goods to. England was not only the biggest importer of goods but England was also the only importer of American goods. Besides the fact they had one to imports goods there states also had no funds. To make matters worse printed money during that time was useless because each state had its own so the farmers were asked to sit down and take it. To make matters worse the Farmers were faced with a new and deadly growing force. The state had issued a court to come form farm to farm and taking property and goods form farmers that were behind on there taxes.
Daniel and his farmer militia herd that the courts were coming to there town next they picked up arms and would fight the state ordered courts. Besides the court coming to town Daniel still fought because he thought the new government had many injustices that he wanted to see fixed. For example the only people who had a say in the government were people who owned property. Also people who wanted hold office had to take a religious oath and because of this many people didn’t want to take the religious oath. He would fight until the injustices done to farmers were fixed. Shay wanted change so he went to Springfield where they were going to discuss what the farmers were doing. When they entered Springfield they were met with huge army ready to fight. When Shay met the army he asked the general if his army could just march. They marched right up to court in Springfield and made their demands. Shay and his rag tag group of fighters helped some of our nation’s heroes build our nation
. Without Shay’s rebellion we would still have the national document be the Articles of Conferadation. When Shay rebelled it showed how weak our government to present uprising. It also made a certain hero of our government come out of public life because even he suffered form the bad farm policy it was George Washington.
Because of the revolution he got George Washington to get back into the public life and help lift up the struggling nation on its firm feet. Even though the demands of the farmers were never met they still helped build a great a nation that would later help them.

Book Report

Book Report

The book I have been reading for the past two weeks is called Don’t Know Much About History. The book is a recap of important events in American history and some small factoids about people in history. The author of the Kenneth C. Davis did a good job of turning text book material into an interesting read. I always found colonial America to be very boring but after I read this book it made the making of our country so much more interesting then I had previously thought it was. The author of the book did so much more then just covers the facts he also covered different theories about certain events. The book looked into different people who made have discovered the Americans besides the Indians. For example one of the theories is that they Irish may have came to America on small boats. This theory is not widely accepted because of the lack of proof but it’s still interesting to know about American history. Besides the book telling you about different events it even told you different books to read on the subject if you wanted to have deeper understanding.
